Update: Added confirmation that Xbox Live Arcade titles aren't included in the 5.3 attach figure.
Moore said in a statement that the high attach rate was due to a strong first-year software lineup consisting of over 160 games currently available, including Xbox Live Arcade titles.
A Microsoft spokesperson confirmed to Next-Gen that the 5.3 attach rate figure doesn't include Xbox Live Arcade titles and is representative of data gathered through holiday 2006.
Moore affirmed that Gears of War plowed through the holidays selling over 2.7 million copies since its November release.
He also said that the Xbox Live community “has eclipsed 5 million members, with over half of all consoles connected.” Moore said that Microsoft is still on track to meet its goal of 6 million Live users by June 2007, the end of its 2007 fiscal year.
Over 100 million pieces of content have been downloaded from online store Xbox Live Marketplace and users have downloaded over 20 million Xbox Live Arcade games to date, according to Moore. Over 70 percent of Xbox Live members download content from Marketplace.
Moore outlined what he called the “stickiness” of Xbox Live, or the high activity of members. Xbox Live Gold subscribers have an average of 21 friends, and 2 million voice, text and picture messages are sent over Xbox Live. He called this community aspect “key” to the growth of the Xbox business.
The corporate VP also affirmed Microsoft’s previously stated goal of shipping 13-15 million Xbox 360s by the end of fiscal 2007.
Aside from games, Moore said that Microsoft has struck a deal with Lionsgate to bring an all-high-def movie lineup to Xbox Live Marketplace.
During Microsoft’s pre-Consumer Electronics Showcase keynote over the weekend, chairman Bill Gates confirmed that the company sold 10.4 million Xbox 360s by the end of calendar 2006, surpassing its 10 million unit goal. The company also revealed IPTV for Xbox 360.

According to Microsoft's global marketing team blog Gamerscore, the Discovery Channel is sponsoring the content in conjunction with the January 15 season premier of its “Future Weapons” series, which focuses on advanced future weapons technology.
Discovery Channel will also be giving away “an unprecedented” 2 million Microsoft Points ($25,000) that can be used to purchase Xbox Live Marketplace content. There will be multiple winners (i.e., there won't be just one person that receives 25 grand to spend on the Marketplace).
The two new maps are dubbed Raven Down and Old Bones.
Raven Down is apparently influenced by the story behind Black Hawk Down, and has Gears fighting Locusts in a search for survivors after a Raven chopper goes down in the middle of a battle.
Old Bones involves the preservation of history, as Gears try to reclaim planet Sera’s museums before the Locust destroy the buildings in an attempt to erase human history.
The maps will be available to download January 10.
In addition, prior to the availability of the downloads, developer Epic Games will release a software update on January 9 with the following modifications to Gears of War (via Epic's Gears Forums):
As expected, Gates announced IPTV for Xbox 360, bringing integrated TV services to the console towards the end of this year. The service will bring together broadband TV with gaming and Xbox Live providing consumers with community-based features while watching TV and playing games. He called the service the "living room device that does it all."
Gates added, “"People are underestimating the importance of the announcement that the videogame is the set-top box and the set-top box is the videogame.”
Robbie Bach, president of Microsoft's Entertainment and Devices Division said, ''Both Xbox 360 and Microsoft TV IPTV Edition by themselves deliver unique and exciting entertainment experiences today, but IPTV on Xbox 360 is truly a solution that is greater than the sum of its parts and will enable even more exciting experiences to delight consumers, service providers, content providers and game developers alike. He added, 'By integrating these industry-leading solutions, we are delivering on our promise to drive innovation and enable new connected entertainment experiences for consumers in a way that only Microsoft can.''
Speaking on the console wars, Gates told an interviewer prior to his speech, "It's a complete reversal of last time. Last time, we tried coming in a year late with a big, clunky box that cost more and having less titles. We tried that and it's not that much fun." He added, "Sony is our most direct competitor. Our goal was to not be Sony, not be a big box, not be expensive.''
Microsoft announced that it sold 10.4 million Xbox 360 consoles last year, exceeding its stated target of 10 million units.
Robbie Bach also said that Gears of War has sold 2.7 million copies worldwide in the two months since it went on sale. "That title is now a Halo-like franchise that continues to drive hardware in a very positive way," he said. "We think it's an evergreen property that we're going to be able to leverage for a long time."
As part of Bill Gates's keynote address at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Robbie Bach joined his boss on stage to reveal that Microsoft has managed to shift 10.4 million units of the Xbox 360 console.
The milestone, which the company had been confidently predicting it would reach last year, is the proof that a full-year head start over rival console manufacturers has paid off for Microsoft.
"We're setting records every step of the way for a console at this stage of its lifecycle," declared Bach.
The console is now available in 37 different countries, with 160 titles on shelves, with Bach promising the machine will benefit from 300 games by the end of 2007.
Console units weren't the only figures bandied around the stage by a jubilant Microsoft. It also revealed that Epic Games's Gears of War has sold over 2.7 million copies, making it "a Halo-like franchise", according to Bach.
A full report of Gates's keynote address will appear on GamesIndustry.biz later today.
