Judge Dismisses Louisiana Game Law

Those following videogame legislation may remember that Louisiana passed regulation last May which would impose a fine on retailers who sell Mature-rated games to minors. Federal District Court Judge James J. Brady blocked the law in June, and it has been drifting in limbo until now.

Dust off those night-vision goggles because today Ubisoft debuted a new build of Splinter Cell: Double Agent that featured two never-before-seen levels of the game, including the transition mission that links Chaos Theory with this latest instalment. Set in Iceland, the opening cutscene shows a spy plane flying silently through the night sky. Inside Sam Fisher prepares for his insertion jump, joined by hotshot rookie agent John, who acts as a guide through the opening stages of the game for players unfamiliar with the Splinter Cell series. As the rear hatch of the plane opens and Fisher walks to the edge and readies himself to jump, John dashes past and leaps into the darkness. Fisher curses his cocky counterpart before taking the plunge into the night sky himself.

Sonic the Hedgehog Preview

No online support for 3rd-party Wii devs until 2007

Gamers hoping for an online component, however, are in for bad news, because one isn't planned. Activision would not say why, but IGN has separately learned from multiple development sources that Nintendo will not release Wii Wi-Fi Connection libraries to third parties until early 2007, which means that no third party launch title will have an online mode.
