Moore: 5.3 Software Attach Rate for Xbox 360

[UPDATE] Xbox boss Peter Moore says that the Xbox 360 enjoys a software attach rate of 5.3 units per console (not including XBLA titles), reveals the latest Xbox Live stats and reiterates a 13-15 million hardware shipment target for FY07.

Update: Added confirmation that Xbox Live Arcade titles aren't included in the 5.3 attach figure.

Moore said in a statement that the high attach rate was due to a strong first-year software lineup consisting of over 160 games currently available, including Xbox Live Arcade titles.

A Microsoft spokesperson confirmed to Next-Gen that the 5.3 attach rate figure doesn't include Xbox Live Arcade titles and is representative of data gathered through holiday 2006.

Moore affirmed that Gears of War plowed through the holidays selling over 2.7 million copies since its November release.

He also said that the Xbox Live community “has eclipsed 5 million members, with over half of all consoles connected.” Moore said that Microsoft is still on track to meet its goal of 6 million Live users by June 2007, the end of its 2007 fiscal year.

Over 100 million pieces of content have been downloaded from online store Xbox Live Marketplace and users have downloaded over 20 million Xbox Live Arcade games to date, according to Moore. Over 70 percent of Xbox Live members download content from Marketplace.

Moore outlined what he called the “stickiness” of Xbox Live, or the high activity of members. Xbox Live Gold subscribers have an average of 21 friends, and 2 million voice, text and picture messages are sent over Xbox Live. He called this community aspect “key” to the growth of the Xbox business.

The corporate VP also affirmed Microsoft’s previously stated goal of shipping 13-15 million Xbox 360s by the end of fiscal 2007.

Aside from games, Moore said that Microsoft has struck a deal with Lionsgate to bring an all-high-def movie lineup to Xbox Live Marketplace.

During Microsoft’s pre-Consumer Electronics Showcase keynote over the weekend, chairman Bill Gates confirmed that the company sold 10.4 million Xbox 360s by the end of calendar 2006, surpassing its 10 million unit goal. The company also revealed IPTV for Xbox 360.
