Google going against Xbox Live

Xbox 360 Fanboy: "In the recent acquisition of Adscape, Google picked up an interesting patent. It seems that Adscape was granted a patent in 2005 for a 'system and method for interactive on-line gaming.' While it's true that Xbox Live has been active since 2002, the patent was actually filed in September of that year, months before Xbox Live launched. The description is fairly vague, though: 'The customer located equipment is connected to the gaming service provider through a broadband access network, and includes a gaming console.' That could apply to almost any online service, depending on one's definition of 'gaming console.' Still, if there is one thing big business isn't shy about, it's patent lawsuits. Both Google and Microsoft have recently stepped up their efforts to enter the online gaming ad space. It will be interesting to see how things develop."

Get your laser tag on ... Halo 3 style

Xbox 360 Fanboy: "Yesterday, TeamXbox reported that Jasman Toys will be partnering with Microsoft and Bungie to create an exclusive line of Halo 3 toys. But these aren't just any ordinary toys, oh no, these are replica Covenant weapons! Jasman Toys is creating a laser tag type of game using the Halo 3 plasma rifle, plasma pistol, and energy sword. Finally, we now have a way to act out our Master Chief fantasies in the real world. And we fully understand how the plasma rifle and pistol will shoot out laser goodness, but how is the world is the energy sword going to work?"

Forza 2 auction house, new cars revealed

Xbox 360 Fanboy: "Lots of great stuff from Forza town this week. First of all, Turn 10 has officially announced the Forza Motorsport 2 online auction house. The auction house, as its name suggests, will let players buy and sell their customized rides. All the purchases are made using the in game currency, so it won't set you back any real cash. The best part: users can participate in auctions using a PC. That's right, you can track your auction even while you're at work! The auction house keeps track of all your car's stats, including miles driven, number of races, number of wins, etc. Since paint can be locked to a specific car, all cars can be truly unique. The auction house is set to be a very nice addition to Forza 2.

Finally, Turn 10 has revealed wave two of Forza's new vehicles. More European cars this week, including V-Dubs (oh, snap!). Check out the list after the break. In case you missed wave one, you can check it out here.

MS launches casual gaming site

Xbox 360 Fanboy: "Gamerscore Blog announced today that Microsoft has launched a website dedicated specifically to its casual games division. The website is geared mainly towards developers, containing several resources useful for those interested in developing casual games for Microsoft. Also launched is a behind-the-scenes column entitled 'Casually Speaking.' The concept behind the column is to invite various members of the casual games development community to talk about the development process.

In our most recent Fancast, we called for more transparency from Microsoft concerning Xbox Live Arcade (especially concerning certification) and these may be early signs that MS is listening. What questions about Arcade would you like answered by Microsoft?"
