Unlike PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 has already taken strong steps to defining itself. It has history, and its prior success can to some extent be used to predict future software successes. But no console has had a second holiday like this one. By the end of November, the 360 will be attacked on its feature set and technological prowess by the PlayStation 3. It will be attacked on its price point by Nintendo’s Wii. The playing field is no longer empty; Microsoft has never needed hit games more than it needs them now.
