Xbox 360 Hard Drive Transfer Kit hands-on

Here's that Xbox 360 Hard Drive Transfer Kit that Microsoft so generously bundled with our Elite. The documentation they sent with this thing was pretty substantial for an adapter and a CD you plug into your Xbox, but we think they want us to make sure we don't screw anything up.

Madden Loophole: Geezer Football 2K8 announces legendary roster

Visual Concepts has announced what many of us have already expected: All-Pro Football 2K8 will have several "legendary" NFL players from the past to bypass Madden's firm hold on current NFL teams and players. How many players? 240! It comes out this summer for PS3 and Xbox 360. Will this be a Madden killer? Doubtful, but it's good to see them try.

Halo 2 graphics comparision: Xbox vs Vista

"True Xbox fanboys have already played Halo 2 so much that the game disc has started to warp, but our PC friends are just getting a taste of what it has to offer with the release of Halo 2 on Windows Vista. And with a Vista release, Halo 2 received a graphical upgrade with crisper textures and sleeker models. Don't believe us? The Gamespot crew posted a graphical comparison of Halo 2, pitting the Xbox version against its newer Vista cousin. The screenshots make it more than obvious that there is a startling contrast between the muddy Xbox graphics and the higher res Vista screens. And why shouldn't the game look prettier on Vista? Though, you have to remember that this is a port, so the graphics weren't majorly reworked. They were just kicked up a notch or two. Anyone using Vista and thinking about getting Halo 2 or will you be holding out a few more months for some Halo 3?"

EndWar viral footage is the shakiest ever

We brought word yesterday that the
EndWar viral site password had been discovered, revealing a pair of video clips. Our friends at The Xbox Domain have uncovered the viral footage in handy YouTube form. As a public service to our readers, we have posted it here. We have to say though, even for viral footage, this stuff is pretty tame. The camera shaking and constant static effect nearly nullifies the whole experience. Honestly, if we didn't know from where the footage came, we'd have no idea what it was (which is sort of the point of viral marketing, we suppose). Still, if you've got a hankering for some Tom Clancy flavored World War III action, you might as well check it out. Hopefully it won't be too long before we see some actual gameplay.

New Assassin's Creed details sneak out

CVG has posted a three part interview with the scriptwriter for Assassin's Creed, Cory May. While few gameplay details are revealed, Cory sheds some light on the story of Assassin's Creed (though he's a little more tactful about it than Kristen Bell). May goes into detail about the game's plot, which is based on the Third Crusade. While the plot is fictional, it is based on real historical figures and events. As two factions wage war (the Crusaders and the Saracens), the Assassins seek only to end the fighting. It turns out that another secret group seeks to extend the hostilities for as long as possible, as they profit from the violence. So, it's up to the Assassins to put a stop to it all. May also mentions the Templar Treasure, which should make fans of The Da Vinci Code positively giddy.

May reveals that the Assassin's motto is "Nothing is true, everything is permitted." While this motto applies historically to the Assassin's actions, May says it also applies to the philosophy behind the game. The design team has thrown out traditional assumptions about action games and has given players the freedom to play as they wish. May also notes that he hopes Assassin's Creed will create a real emotional connection with the player (seems like the "it" thing to do these days, doesn't it?). Follow the links below for each part of the interview.
