Official Xbox Magazine Uses Miis for Editor Pics

The Wii Experience: "Not really breaking news or anything, I just found it rather odd but in the latest issue of the Official Xbox Magazine for March of 2007, the editors have replaced their normal mugs with their Mii counterparts. It took me about 3 double takes to fully realize what was going on, reading an Xbox magazine with Mii’s inside of it. There is a very tiny blurb at the bottom of the page with a minor explanation as to what is going on:

“We like our Wii-generated Mii portraits so much,we thought we’d run them two issues in a row. Next month, we’ll go back to our ever-familiar photos.”

GoW cheaper to make than Lost Planet; Award scoop

Xboxic: "It shocked many that Lost Planet cost $20 million dollars to make when the announcement was made last week, with the quality being brought into question among other things. Gears’ quality isn’t in doubt, so it will come as a surprise to hear that Gears of War cost half of what Lost Planet did.

In a recent interview with Wired.com, Mark Rein, Epic’s Vice President, explicitly stated that Gears of War cost less than $10 million dollars to make. Quite an achievement when you consider how brilliant the game looks, how well it plays and how well the online works (yes there is host advantage, but that’s a whole different matter).

WiredNews: Have you figured out what percentage of next-gen games in development use Unreal Engine 3?

Mark Rein: No. It’s probably very small; a lot of people do all kinds of games with all kinds of technology. We’re a small player there, but hopefully it’ll be the good games, the games that are profitable, and that’ll bring us repeat business. We spent less than $10 million to make Gears of War. Somewhere between nine and ten million dollars. People are always saying that making next-generation games is really expensive, and we’re saying, you should license our technology. Because we have really great tools for buildin"

Xbox 360 leads over Wii, PS3 at Amazon

Microsoft Corp.'s Xbox 360 leads in sales over rival next-generation video game consoles at the U.S. division of internet retailer Amazon.com.

The Xbox 360 is currently ranked No. 11 in Amazon's Computer and Video Games division, followed by Nintendo Co.'s Wii video game system at No. 18 and Sony Corp.'s Playstation at No. 65.

In addition, the Xbox 360 currently holds two products in the top ten sales, including the Wireless Controller and the action title Gears of War.

Microsoft's Xbox 360 outsold rival offerings from Nintendo and Sony during the holiday 2006 period in the U.S. and commanded 51% market share in the U.S. for the month of Dec.

Top game offerings include Gears of War, which has sold more than 3 million units, and non-gaming offerings like digital distribution of TV and movie content on Xbox Live and the HD DVD external drive.

Microsoft has sold 10.4 million Xbox 360s to date worldwide. It anticipates 12 million shipped by fiscal June 2007.

Rumored price and download size for Shivering Isles

Xbox 360 Fanboy: "Next month the Shivering Isles expansion pack for Oblivion will be available, but we have yet to hear any specifics. Gamehelper.com is reporting that the Shivering Isles expansion pack will only be available for the Xbox 360 via the XBLM, cost around $29.99, and weigh in at a beefy 1.5 gigabytes. Again, this isn't official information coming from Bethesda and should be treated as a rumor. Gamehelper.com doesn't site any sources or where they received the information and simply treats these tidbits as fact ... but we'll err on the side of caution. So guys, were you expecting the $30 price tag for the expansion and would you be willing to shell out that kind of cash for 30 plus hours of additional gameplay?"
