USA Today's Take On The Next Gen Systems

"With the arrival of two innovative new systems about two months away, the video game world is as unsettled as it has ever been. On Nov. 17, market leader Sony will launch its high-priced PlayStation 3 ($499-$599, depending on size of hard drive), having given a year's head start to challenger Microsoft's Xbox 360.
And trailing industry giant Nintendo is headed in a different direction with its Wii system this fall (no price or release date yet). Although not as powerful as the PS3 or 360 — in fact, it's described as having slightly more punch than today's GameCube — the Wii promises not only to be cheaper but also to change the gaming experience with its unique motion-sensitive controller."

Stream Videos on Your 360 Without Media Center

Finally, gamers can unleash all of their PC-canned porn onto their televisions. Reader Cainrok points out that Media Player 11 will support video playback from PC to Xbox 360 without the need of a Media Center Edition computer.

I'm fairly certain he's right. Looking at the site it specifically mentions streaming video onto your Xbox 360 and doesn't say a thing about a Media Center requirement.

...if you have an Xbox 360 or other digital media receiver (DMR), you can use Windows Media Player to stream music, pictures, and videos from your computer to that device.

This makes sense. Once Vista hits you won't need a Media Center system anyway, it will be built in, so why not make it work on XP as well.

Q&A: GameFly's Sean Spector

Over the past several years, the traditional video-rental business has been in decline. One factor for the slump is the rise of Netflix. Founded in 1997, the increasingly ubiquitous service lets subscribers rent an unlimited number of DVDs, all for a flat fee. Customers pick the DVDs online and have them mailed to their homes, bypassing often frustrating video-store visits and late charges.
