The first 10 minutes : Colin Mc Rae DiRT - Xboxyde

"The embargo around DiRT is finally lifted, so it's with great pleasure that I release these three videos I've recorded other the last week. You'll discover quite a lot of environments and a few game modes in there, and no doubt the majority will agree that this is a great looking game even if there is a lot of tearing and slowdowns in some modes.

As for the gameplay, I guess you all tried the demo so you already know how strange the handling can be at time. DiRT sometimes feels like a simulation, sometimes like an arcade game and sometimes like a big 'WTF is going on?', very difficult to describe. Also worth mentioning are the incredibly long loadings between each race (thankfully only a couple of seconds for a restart), made slightly more acceptable by the excellent and very slick looking menu interface.
A game I can only recommend if you actually managed to get around the strange handling in the demo. Then you are in for an excellent single player experience."

Free movies with 360 HD DVD player purchase

"If you're in the market for the Xbox 360 HD DVD player and want to jump start your movie library, then this week may be the time to make the purchase. At both Best Buy and Circuit City you'll get two HD DVDs for free with a 360 HD DVD player purchase. Which leaves you with a total of three free movies, because the King Kong HD DVD is included with the player. Now only if they offered a free 50' 1080p HD television as part of the deal, then we'd probably pick up two. "

360 price cut not coming anytime soon

"The other day we reported on rumors that internally Microsoft was taking an Xbox 360 price drop seriously. Well, the Gamerscore Blog crew was quick to squash our hopes of a cheaper 360 by getting an official response from the guy who made the comment, David Hufford. In response to Bloomberg's article, Hufford says that 'the comment, which is accurately reported, unfortunately has now been taken way out of context and being reported as if I am signaling a price drop. I was not, I am not'. David says that his comment was made two months ago in regards to discussing NPD sales numbers and chatting generally about hardware pricing. So, he wasn't commenting on Microsoft's specific 360 pricing strategy and therefore no price cut ... sorry guys."

Ring of death inspires Forza 2 artwork

Another Forza 2 customized paint job arrived in our inbox today and we thought its inspiration was noteworthy. Some of us (including me) have experienced the dreaded red lights and have had to deal with Microsoft's semi-helpful customer service to send off a broken 360. CoolNumber9 is having the same red ring of death problems and has been using the "towel trick" to keep it running long enough to make a ring of death inspired Forza 2 car. It may not be the most badass ride on the block, but anyone who has had to deal with the red lights will shudder when they see this beast in their rear view mirror. Long live die the ring of death!

Shane Kim talks Halo 3; content of special editions revealed

"As the Beta comes to a close today, many people will be mourning the loss, wishing away the months until September when Halo re-emerges for the final fight. Gamespy caught up with Shane Kim to talk about Halo 3 and what it does for the 360, with some interesting details on Peter Jackson’s involvement. Frankie also revealed the content that will be contained in each of the three packages."

Starting with the interview, there’s a whole host of interesting information contained over three pages. Kim talks about all manner of different things, including Gears of War, saying he already knows that Halo will be much bigger than Epic’s title, stating that despite GoW being an amazing title, Halo is just something else with Xboxians.

Peter Jackson though is perhaps more interesting to fans that are desperate for a movie based on the trilogy. It seems Jackson is no longer working on said movie, instead shifting focus to a slightly less interesting project:

GameSpy: You mentioned that Bungie is working with Peter Jackson on the Halo interactive series. Is this the same team that is currently working on Halo 3?

Shane Kim: I’m not sure about the specifics. They’ll be done with Halo 3 this year, but we haven’t announced any dates on the Halo 3 series.

GameSpy: So there’s another project in the works for Bungie to begin once Halo 3 is over?

Shane Kim: Oh yeah. Bungie has their plans well mapped out. You have to, when you have a studio like that, and you need to know what you’re moving your people on to. So they have the collaboration with Peter Jackson on the interactive series.
