Video: Full level of Splinter Cell Double Agent

We went back to the Ubisoft booth to shoot a walkthrough of the famous Kinshasah level of Splinter Cell Double Agent, now in integrality. The build was much more advanced than the one we saw at E3, and the framerate problems we experienced back then are now gone for good. We also discovered a new feature, "Trust", which indicates during the game how much your employers trust in you, depending on the choices you make (saving innocents or not, skipping objectives etc). Finally, we had a quick overview of some new maps of the final game, and those who feel disturbed by the odd settings of the Kinshasah level can relax, there are a lot of different environnements, and it's more than ever about using gadgets, sneaking and hiding.

GC06: Tiger Woods 2007 gameplay

Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07 was also on the Microsoft booth, so I took advantage of a guy who seemed to appreciate the game quite much, and did this video. The game is certainly not a looker, but I suppose it has other well hidden qualities...

GC: WOW Factor

It's odd to learn that Blizzard Entertainment might be wary of taking on a new challenge. After all, the decision to create a Warcraft MMORPG, despite the huge amounts of time, money and risk involved, worked out rather well.

So well, in fact, that the game is now played by more than 6 million players worldwide - and counting. What's more, they're all forking out at least $12.99 a month for the privilege, which means Blizzard probably isn't having too much trouble paying the bills. Namely the bills for their champagne fountains, personal helicopters and office chairs made out of melted-down fabergé eggs. Possibly.

Default Loss

It's rare for a videogames show - be it E3, TGS or any other event - to have clear winners and losers from among the top publishers and platform holders. In general, there are positives and negatives on all sides. Take this year's E3 for example, where despite the strong media backlash against Sony's arrogant attitude in their press conference (not to mention their price point), the firm did succeed in showing off a surprisingly polished array of software both in playable and trailer form.

First screens of Halo 2 for Vista

Halo 2 has been out for ages on the Xbox, but it's still the most popular game on Xbox Live. No wonder Microsoft wants to benefit some more from the game by releasing it on PC. On top of that, the game will only run on Windows Vista, which should demonstrate the power of the platform.
The first screenshots don't do that, however. Not even by a long shot. Even with the visual improvements, we've already seen a lot of games that look way more impressive.

Worlds First Completed PS3 Gets White Gloves Treatment at GC06!!!

At last the PS3 has been removed from its showcase at this years Leipzig Games Convention! Sony's hardware production manager "Ulrich von Fürstenber" displayed the PS3 to visitors while sporting a pair of white gloves (wouldn't want to get any finger prints on it)! He CONFIRMED to Sonic151 (pictured wearing 0% interested t-shirt) that the PS3 remains on track for a November 17th release and pitched why blu-ray is superior to HD-DVD. Ulrich relayed that 90% of upcoming next gen movies are on blu-ray and not HD-DVD and that the PS3 acts as a very cool blu-ray player. Lastly, he commented that the PS3 was not playable due to the upcoming Tokyo Games Show and rubbished reports that there is a hidden feature that nobody knows about.

Gran Turismo HD forerunner to new next-gen GT

Polyphony Digital head Kazunori Yamauchi spoke about the next Gran Turismo title in the latest issue of Weekly Famitsu. There were two points of interest in the article. First, the parenthetical "working title" has been dropped from the name, implying that Gran Turismo HD is indeed the final title. Second, while Yamauchi lavished praise on the game's high-definition graphics, he stated that the game was not the true next-gen heir to the popular racing series' crown.

MS Denies EA Employee Claim of High Failure Rates Among X360s

Yesterday we were tipped off by an employee of a major publisher who claimed that the Xbox 360 failure rate—at least within his studio—has been much higher than Microsoft has stated failure rates to be (around 3-5%). The employee suggested that the failure rates were actually as high as 30-50% among the 300 or so consoles they received. He also noted that Capcom's Dead Rising seemed to be making the problem worse, with many of the consoles getting much hotter than usual.
