PS3 1080p Is "Meaningless" says Xbox 360 Strategist

When PS3 finally comes out and you hook it up to a high definition television, will the games look equivalent to titles played on an Xbox 360 with a similar setup? That's what director of technical strategy for Xbox Live Andre Vrignaud said recently on his blog in a post titled "1080p Meaningless this Generation."

Since he's much more an expert than I am in the 1080p vs. 1080i ongoing debate, we'll let his words speak for themselves.

There's been a lot of interest in the PS3 due to its stated 1080p output for both games and movies (via Blu-ray). What's interesting is that a lot of folks don't realize how meaningless 1080p actually is in this generation.

Crysis Demo Confirmed

"At the Leipzig Game Convention, Crytek employee level designer on Crysis Alexander Werner confirmed to 1UP that there would be some form of pre-release demo for Crysis. "We're doing some kind of demo before the game releases, but we don't know if it will be single player or multiplayer demo yet." Demos for PC games are pretty commonplace, but it's still good to know that Crytek will be giving us something from Crysis to play with before the game ships next year. Now, we just need to find a computer to run it on."

Half-Life 2: Episode Two has slipped until Q1 2007

Half-Life 2: Episode Two and its three-game entourage - on three platforms - has slipped until Q1 2007. February, we're told. But if you ever really expected to play it this year you were probably kidding yourself anyway. Fortunately it's sounding really rather good - a technological improvement thanks to the license new areas have afford Valve to work on new art assets, and one with lots of new enemies and vehicles among other things. Speaking to Eurogamer at Leipzig's Game Convention, Valve's Doug Lombardi spoke candidly on release date, price, the background to the re-emergence of Team Fortress 2, and how - if things had been different - the Portal gun might even have wound up in Half-Life 2 in the first place.
