Combined - News - Fallout: 3 On It's Way For Xbox 360

The Fallout series is perhaps one of the crown jewels of PC RPGs. But now, 360 owners will be happy to know the next mutant slaughter fest is heading their way. Here's what Todd Howard (Executive producer of Oblivion, Morrowind and Fallout) had to say in an interview with UK Official Xbox Magazine.

Gates: Sony Didn't Know What They Were Doing

When asked if any of Sony's next-generation PS3 games would look better than the Xbox 360's Halo 3, Gates replied:
"No. They were going to have the Cell be the video processor. But they didn't know what they were doing. They said the Cell is the video processor. But they turned to Nvidia at the last minute, but Nvidia can't do embedded DRAM. Go look at the bandwidth problems. Go ask the guys running ... now. They took their year and burned it by not having a decent CPU strategy and then turning to Nvidia at the last minute. It's a very unusual thing."
Gates also admitted that the release of the first Xbox was a year late, and didn't have the best games then, either. Overall, it's a surprisingly candid interview, with lots of good comments about IPTV on the Xbox 360, too. read more

XBLA Limit Upped To 250 MB

1UP is reporting that the previous 50 MB limit for Xbox Live Arcade downloadable games is no more. This shouldn't come as too big of a surprise, as the 97 MB file size for Konami's Castlevania Symphony of the Night for XBLA has been widely publicized.

According to exclusive fetishist and 1UP reporter Luke Smith, the new cap will be set at 250 MB and "with Microsoft's approval, that size can be expanded to 450 MB." Good news for fans of larger file downloads, bad news for Core owners saddled with 64 MB memory units.

Microsoft says "over half" of 360 buyers didn't own Xbox 1

There's over a 50% chance that if you own a 360, you didn't own the first Xbox. Well, according to Microsoft that is. "We've sold 10.4 million, but the stat you may not have heard is that over half of those sales are from people that didn't own an Xbox 1," said Microsoft manager, Chris Satchell while speaking with Eurogamer. He continued by saying, "There's lots of new people coming in ... What we're actually finding is that our customer set is broadening." Blue ocean strategy (read: market expansion) is so hot right now.

The article goes on to slightly criticize Satchell's growth remarks, however, questioning what we know as 10.4 million units sold to retailers by Microsoft the wholesaler and not directly to consumers. Nevertheless, 10.4 million is a solid feat with the obvious caveat being the company ultimately needs end consumers to buy more 360's which equates to repeat sales to retailers. So for any 360 owners in the room who didn't also own an Xbox 1, please say "I."
