MS installing new heatsinks in refurb 360s

The technophiles at Xbox-Scene have uncovered a tasty bit of Xbox 360 news that should serve as some relief to sufferers of the Red Ring of Death. It looks like Microsoft is employing new heat-combating measures when refurbishing broken units. Specifically, a new heatsink is being installed. The heatsink resides directly under the DVD drive, connected to one of the other heatsinks with copper tubing. Blessedly untouched by the Red Ring of Death thus far, we don't know how effective this new heatsink is, but we're hopeful that it will solve perpetually publicized 360 failures. Whether or not Microsoft is also installing the heatsink in new Xbox 360s is unknown. See video proof of the new heatsink after the break.

Call of Duty 4: PC, X360 and PS3 images

"Activision releases a bunch of new Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare screenshots, an episode that should be a landmark in the series as it finally leaves out the old and tired World War II setting. And it looks very good !"

Halo 3 Beta statistics released

"Now that the Halo 3 beta has been over with for over 72 hours, some statistics for those number crunchers out there to feast upon. First off, with 820,000 unique gamertags playing online, that's a lot of copies of Crackdown, probably well over 750,000 after you deduct the initial beta registrants, 13,333 'Rule of 3' winners, and Friends and Family testers. Those gamers also logged twelve million hours of play time in the three weeks, with 350 terabytes of data being transfered across live, from downloading the beta, as well as possibly bandwidth for games, and file share movies. Either way, that's pretty impressive."

Forza 2 bundle available in Canada, eh?

If car enthusiasts are going to be picking up an Xbox 360 solely for Forza Motorsport 2, then they're in luck, provided they reside in the Great White North. Yes, not only do Canadians have the ability to grab the Forza 2 Collector's Edition domestically, but they also have the standard game packed in with Xbox 360s. The bundle comes with your standard Xbox 360 "Premium" or "Pro" set up, wireless controller, 20GB Hard drive etc. If you don't, or didn't have the console already, would the inclusion of Forza 2 sway your purchase?

Master Chiefing It: GameStop Makes a Grab at the Halo 3 Money Train With Limited Edition Accessories

halo3gear.jpg Because bleeding Halo fanatics out of $130 for the Halo 3 Legendary Edition really only scratches the surface of their (parents') bank accounts, GameStop is stepping up to collect the remaining lunch money with a line of "limited edition" Halo 3 gear that drops Sept. 4: a pair of Spartan and Covenant 360 controllers and a wireless headset with a "uniquely Halo look."

On the cool side, the controller artwork was created by Todd McFarlane, and they each come with Halo figure from McFarlane Toys. The headset, however, is just an uglified version of the standard Microsoft one, with a Halo 3 logo slapped on it.

For $60 a pop, the controllers aren't a horrible value proposition, but to pay that much for a baby-shit-colored headset should test the devotion of even the hardiest fanboy.
