Sony's PS2 is likely to outsell PS3 not just this year but in 2007 too

In December video game maker Square Enix Co. began running prime-time TV ads in Japan featuring battle scenes from its new adventure game Seiken Densetsu 4, or Legend of the Sacred Sword. Every 30-second spot ended with a familiar logo: PlayStation. But the game isn't played on Sony Corp.'s (SNE) new PlayStation 3 console. It's for the PlayStation

NVIDIA to create "the world's first real-time virtual 3-D celebrity.

Sure, you can tell which one of the pictures above is the digital Adrianne Curry, America's Next Top Model and all-around smokin' celebrity, but the digital version still manages to raise the gigahertz level a bit. She's teamed up with graphics cardmeister NVIDIA to create "the world's first real-time virtual 3-D celebrity."

NVIDIA says the digital Adrianne can demonstrate the same range of emotions, movements and attitude is as her own sultry, cat-like real-world counterpart. She apparently likes the idea:

"I am honored to have been selected as the first celebrity for this project," said Adrianne Curry. "The Digital Adrianne is so realistic, it's really trippy. Lara Croft, eat my shorts!"
Come on inside and feast your eyes on a quartet of tight closeups of the 3D version of Adrianne:

NEXT-GEN’S TOP 50 GAMES OF THE YEAR

Next Generation has picked and ranked the 50 games we believe made 2006 such a stand-out year in game quality. Click through for the definitive ‘Best of Year’ round-up….

1. Gears of War

Publisher: Microsoft
Developer: Epic Games
Released: November
Primary platform: Xbox 360
Sometimes, words fail. Superlatives don’t do justice to Gears of War, the game no one should be forced to read about and the one everyone should be forced to play. The third-person shooter offers gruesomely bloody warfare, a simple play style where the hero takes cover or dies, and a series of memorable moments piled on one after another. Its multiplayer options cement the game’s immortality; Gears of War is not only the best game of this year, it is the best game of an as-yet-undetermined number of years. Complete list here...

HD DVD Encryption Hacked, Xbox 360 Player Utilized

More...A hacker by the name of muslix64 has announced on Doom9 forums that he has found a way to decrypt the AACS encryption technology used to protect HD DVD movies.

BackupHDDVD is a tool to decrypt a AACS protected movie that you own, so you can play it back later using an HDDVD player software.

This is the first version, and it's not very stable yet.

This software doesn’t provide any cryptographic keys, so you have to add your own keys.

The hacker has posted a video demonstration of his application on YouTube. In the video, muslix64 reads the entire content of an HD DVD movie on his PC and then copies the content to the hard drive. Then, using PowerDVD, he simply load the content as video files stored on the computer.

Rumor: Worms to Hit Xbox Live Arcade Right After CES

The latest rumor to hit Internet forums claims that Microsoft will announce during the week of CES 2007 the Xbox Live Arcade version of Team17's Worms.

Worms is a turn-based strategy game where teams of worms battle across bizarre landscapes. Each team takes it in turns to pick off the opposing teams using crazy weapons such as bazookas, grenades, dynamite, exploding sheep, old ladies and the dreaded concrete donkey. Some of these weapons have a limited supply so strategy must be used to achieve maximum carnage.

PSP2 to sport 60GB Samsung hard drive?

Hard to imagine, but it's been over two years since Sony unleashed the PSP (at least in Japan), so it stands to reason that we're due for a little upgrade, right? Well, it's difficult to tell precisely what's going on due to the machine translation, but Samsung introduced its new N-Series line of 1.8-inch hard drives today and there's some indication that a 60GB version of the drive may end up in a future PSP. With any luck we may see a proper announcement at CES next month -- we definitely would not kick a 60GB PSP out of bed -- but for right now we're just trying to figure out exactly what Samsung announced today.

GOOGLE THINKS PLAYSTATION 3 IS A FAILURE?

With all the buzz around who is going to come out trumps in the next-generation wars, let's see what Google thinks as Google seems to have an unbridled opinion on everything.

If one runs a Google search for the phrase "ps3 is a failure", there are around 200-odd matches. Run a Google search for the phrase "xbox 360 is a failure" and Google conjures up 75 matches. While a search for the phrase "wii is a failure" triggers 25+ matches. Before you rubbish this post, let me tell you this a whole new perspective on the now-present-gen-console wars. It is a facetious way of looking at things and is better than stories like "5 out of 7 playstation 3 remain unsold" on hdgamenews.com. To end it, this post was written with a will to improvise in a creative and a humorous light and implores your discretion.
