Sighted: evidence of new aircraft in Halo 3

You may recall the fuss created by a group of modders last week, in which several things were discovered inside the Halo 3 beta code. There were mentions of new medals, weapons, and vehicles. In particular, the code snippets lead many to believe there would be new aircraft, specifically the Chopper, Pelican, and Phantom. Well, kiddies, throw another log on the rumor fire, as a new medal has been uncovered. This medal is awarded to those who "board an aircraft." We have to note, as did our tipster, that the medal says "aircraft" and not "Banshee." Is this proof that their are more controllable aircraft in Halo 3? Hell no, but it's starting to look that way.

Hit the "read" link to see a game of the Halo 3 beta with the mysterious medal.

Grand Theft Auto IV images galore!

Rockstar has rolled out a handful of new Grand Theft Auto IV images and we've incorporated them into a new gallery, along with previously released content as well. The shots all show off a very impressive level of detail, from foliage in the trees to reflective surfaces on automobiles. We also get some close looks at GTAIV's protagonist, Niko Bellic (seen above behind the wheel of a likely stolen ride). Check out our extensive new gallery below and tell us what you think.

Microsoft to Earn Big With Halo 3

Analysts are predicting that first-week sales of the upcoming shooter Halo 3 may generate about $170 million, which should give Microsoft's gaming division its first profitable quarter.

While Halo 3 is releasing right at the end of Microsoft's first fiscal 2008 quarter (which runs from July through September), Goldman-Sach's industry watchers are expecting the game to contribute about $170 million in revenue for the quarter, with more than 4.2 million copies shipped into the retail channel. That's nearly one copy for every three Xbox 360s in the world, going by the analysts' projections of an installed user base of 13.2 million by September.

They also note that the $170 million figure could be low by as much as $50 million if they've lowballed the installed user base. Microsoft's tendency to put revenue from games on its books as soon as they're shipped out could also boost the revenue number, as could any change to the analysts' royalty model, which assumes Microsoft keeps 80 percent of the retail price on first-party games.

This, of course, goes in line with the recent news on Halo 3 being a potential booster for X360 sales.

Another good indication of certain profit for MS is that Halo 3 has already surpassed 4 million pre-orders, according to online retailer Gamestop.

The game's official release date is set for September 25 (EU release - Sep. 26).

Now, the only thing MS needs to worry about is Jack Thompson. (Lol. - 2Lions)

COD4 trailer assaults Marketplace

The Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare trailer that was released late last month is now available on Xbox Live Marketplace. Granted, it's been available in high definition from the promotional CharlieOscarDelta.com website since last month, but this will save you the trouble of registering for a marketing website. For those unfamiliar with the game, COD4 ditches WWII action in favor of, well, modern warfare. Check out the trailer and be sure to check out the 3D screenshot if you haven't already.

Army Of Two Weapon Design Contest For Xbox 360

"Some news is better late than never, right? Right. In this case many of you are probably well aware of the gun designing contest, which has already spread across the likes of Digg and N4G. But if you haven’t picked up your Crayola crayon and started doodling out your dream-gun, you better start now.

EA is currently hosting a (to paraphrase the official name) “Design your own dream gun” contest. The contest will run up until June 15th and the winner will have their weapon featured in a special pre-order rendition of the Xbox 360 version of Army of Two. Yet again, PS3 gamers are inexcusably pwned. And this time, it’s not our fault.

To enter the contest all you have to do is send in an image of your own customized weapon and a brief description (i.e., how it fires, special attributes, etc.) For further rules and submissions guidelines, or just to simply submit your entry, you can visit the Official Army of Two Website. While you’re there you can also check out screenshots and other available media of the game.

According to the press release, “Once gamers submit their designs, the images will be posted on the site for the community to vote on. Come June 16, the top weapons will be reviewed by the development team who will then pick two lucky desi"
