Rumor: Xbox 360 HDMI Coming With Lost Planet Bundle?

HDMIShots of the forthcoming Lost Planet Xbox 360 bundle for Japan made their way onto the internet today, with some eagle eyed console fans noticing something surprising: mention of HDMI output on the back of the box.

1UP followed up with Microsoft who claimed that the box contained a "misprint", denying that HDMI output would be included in the package. Yeah. Misprint. That may very well be true for this particular bundle, but something smells fishy.

So, what is it? Are we looking at a future hardware revision? Will Microsoft be selling an HDMI output cable this holiday? We were tipped about one popping up on Gamestop the other day for a cool $80, shipping December 1, but it has since disappeared.

We'll let you know what else we hear, but since all Microsoft rumors are true, expect an HDMI output announcement soon.

Bethesda's Rogue Warrior coming to Xbox 360, PC, and PS3

Videogames, as with any form of creative expression, are constantly evolving. You'd be hard-pressed to browse through your own game collection without seeing the undeniable influence on at least one aspect of a game, an influence spawning from the archetypes that came before it. Ideas are burrowed, innovations are replicated and history stands true to it all. And as any certified old-school gamer will assure you, "without Mario, there'd be no modern-day platformers."

To the game developers themselves, it seems to present itself as a logical process: use what's worked in the past and build upon it. Sure, it's not the most inventive mindset in the world, but when you're looking to improve upon a genre that is already chockfull of about a thousand titles that took a similar course of action, the desire to reinvent the proverbial wheel is a sensible one. Just look at any action game. Or fighting game. Or first-person tactical shooter.

Ok, so the latter genre is a little too specific to blend in with that series unanimously, but it's there for a reason (read: we suck at transitions). It also stands out as one we've come to either love or loathe, depending on who you ask. Tons o' guns that go "boom" and authentic locales may be all the rage, but the brain-dead AI and linear gameplay that tend to resurface time and time again have become quite the genre sticklers.

Zombie Studios thinks it's about due time for a change. And the game they're doing it with is Rogue Warrior.

Gears of War trilogy leaked by Microsoft

Just when you think you couldn't get any more Gears of War, Microsoft VP of Global Marketing accidentally leaked the game's plans for a trilogy. Most of us expected a sequel to come out due to the success of the first, but a third was a little unexpected. I'm not complaining though, I would be happy playing Gears of War 7.

Home Pro Racing Simulator decks out your living room for $4,000

You know, most of us who have extra 42-inch plasma screens just kicking around usually spend our spare time watching say, "Battlestar Galactica" or some other big exploding action-packed show. It hadn't occurred to us that what our home entertainment center was missing was a Home Pro Racing Simulator, but then again, what do we know. Costco, a big-box wholesale retailer, is shipping an equally ridiculously-sized $4,000 rig that apparently acts as the perfect cockpit for racing (no, not the actual kind) or flying video games, coming complete with a steering wheel, foot pedals, 10-inch woofer, a handful of tweeters, and of course the optional, but obligatory, joystick. While the Simulator is also advertised as a "movie-going experience", we're not really sure how you're going to cuddle up to your loved one in a single seat while squashed behind a steering wheel -- we're not trying to replicate makeout point in our home theater, ya dig?
