NEC dual-mode chip can power both Blu-ray, HD DVD at no extra cost

If the ongoing format war is the only thing keeping you from investing in a high-definition DVD player, your benchwarmer days could be numbered. NEC Electronics has started shipping a single decoder chip that can handle both Blu-ray and HD DVD formats, all at about the same price as the company's single-format solutions.
